The reason I chose “changing schools” is because it is a moment of growth for me that changed me significantly and showed me lessons in maturity and understanding that I probably never would have learned if I hadn’t gone through this experience. In addition, the things I learned from this experience have stayed with me and made me a better person.

The first step I took when making this comic was deciding on a moment. This was hard, as I went back and forth between two or three different options, but I eventually settled on this one because it had a great impact on me and I felt I could easily represent this in a comic form. The next step I took was sketching it out with pencil.  I made crude examples of the final drawings and put them all on the paper, as well as writing the dialogue. The final step I took was sketching over the original drawings and dialogue with a pen and adding color. One visual decision I decided to make was that the first three and last three panels would all be similar to each other, with the first and last matching, the second and fifth matching, and the third and fourth matching, to show that what was changing was not my surroundings, but my attitude about the change. Another detail I put in was that I was wearing different clothes in every panel, to show that time was passing. I wrote about the states of my feelings in these times in dialogue boxes, but I drew images to represent what the dialogue boxes were saying.

The way my webcomic relates to Persepolis is that they are both influenced the theme of change as an opportunity for growth.
