My web comic is about the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a meaningful time for me, because I had never been through anything like that, and, frankly, I had no idea what a pandemic was. It was horrible what happened, but I made one of my best friends for life and if it had not happened, I don't think we would be as close as we are today.
I started with the eve of the pandemic, because I wanted to tell my experience from the beginning, and that part was very dramatic. I used a web comic planner to lay out my ideas and, from there, I did a rough draft and finetuned the rest.
I used close-up, small details to show the passing of time and the change in my emotions throughout the story. Other visual details include, in panel three, there’s a dramatic closeup of my face that helps foreshadow what’s about to happen. In some of the other panels, I also used closeups to show how the character is feeling. I balanced words and images to tell my story. I let the words tell the story but the pictures give you a feeling of what's going on in the character’s mind.
My web comic memoir relates to the theme in Persepolis of a major life change and having to adjust to that.
