Baseball Talk

Owen Perry

I chose this story as my webcomic because it means a lot to me as a baseball player since it shows me and my friend are on the bench in the dugout having a conversation on how he is tired and that I don’t get it. I found out that not everyone that plays wants to and that everyone has their own pros and cons.

To develop my webcomic, I made a story arc which shows the raw ideas and in what place to put them. After the story arc, I made a panel planner which is the rough draft where you test out the drawings and see how it fits. Finally, I made the real webcomic which was a lot better than the original story arc and panel planner.

To communicate tone/emotion I drew a lot of facial expressions to show happiness, annoyance, tiredness, confusion, and relaxation. And during the conversation it was gray outside while I was annoyed, confused, and tired, while while I was sleeping it was pitch black because I was finally thinking about it and finally understanding it and not liking it or being at peace with it.

I balanced words and images by having the baseball game at night to show that we are tired and that I have a short fuse because of this and the fact that we are losing.

This story is like Persepolis because me and Marji are confused by things, Marji is confused about the Shaw, and I’m confused about Nate not wanting to play.
