AI Shouldn't Take Over Any Form of Art
Kesem Sachs
I believe AI shouldn’t take over any form of art. You might ask why is that so important to me? Well, it’s because we make our art from our actions. We make art from our mistakes, triumphs, griefs, breakthroughs. Art is a way for us to express our feelings, good and bad alike, and make something beautiful out of them. If you think about it, a lot of movies are based on true stories. Art pieces are basically our feelings put on paper or canvas or molded into clay or wood. And if you've never heard a song where the artist was wailing their head off about some breakup, you’ve been living in a different world, my friend. AI art isn’t true art because we channel our emotions into art, and AI doesn’t have any real emotions.
There is no way to avoid AI art. I see billboards, posters, commercials, and pinterest posts, and I’m sure you do too. AI art surrounds us. And yes, AI can be useful for a lot of things, but art, really? Why would anyone want meaningless, emotionless, artificial art? The thing about art made by humans is that it comes from raw, real feelings which makes the piece creative and relatable. People don’t use their art skills to make eye-catching pieces anymore, and it’s a shame, because we humans have got a thing going here. After all, we are the only being of life as we know it that are able to make art like we do!
AI is taking away people’s artful jobs every day, and many more jobs too! I notice that whenever I see a piece of AI art, I can immediately tell it’s AI because my eyes glance over it because it’s not interesting. Obviously AI art isn’t as interesting as an art piece that took time, anticipation, mistakes, a rough draft, and a human’s own bare hands.
Art is a way for us to express our feelings, it’s where the creativeness of humans comes in. AI isn’t creative, it states facts and follows orders. There's nothing special or unique about it, it doesn’t have real feelings. Art is where you can show your true colors without being criticized, share your trauma or beliefs with others, gather people together, and make them stop thinking they are alone in this world. AI art could never live up to art with true feelings.
Art isn't what AI is made for. It’s like giving a farmer the job of making a car. They’re just not fit for that job, right? It’s the same with AI. We could use AI for so many other things like asking it for help about technical difficulties, or even what to do if you're having a bad day. It can give you feedback, suggestions, anything, basically. This is not only about AI taking over art, it’s about AI taking over the world. I mean, we’ve seen all the books and watched all the movies about some alien or intelligence taking over the world right? It rarely ends well. So let us not follow in the footsteps of those and let us use AI smartly and usefully, so it will always stay the tool we’re using.
Overall, I believe that AI can’t make true art because of a couple reasons.
1. It isn’t interesting.
2. It doesn’t take effort and errors to make it
3. It isn’t creative
Art is so meaningful, it shouldn’t be taken over by AI.
Writer's Statement
My main belief is that AI shouldn’t take over art. My personal story is that I see AI art everywhere, which shows that art is being taken over by AI. I chose this belief because I know many people won’t agree with me and it’s a very unique and bold writer’s statement, and it’s something that I truly believe in. I chose to start my essay with my belief, so it would be very clear what my essay would be about. Some strong facts I used were where I see AI art, why AI shouldn’t take over art, and why art is so important. These particular details help readers understand my belief by showing them through my eyes why this is so important to me. The very first This I Believe essay we read aloud in class from the This I Believe Website inspired me the most -“Be Cool to the Pizza Dude” by Sarah Adams- because it was a stable mix of humor, metaphors, and organizedness. Some changes I made to my essay was that instead of the 3rd paragraph being about the deeper meaning behind my statement I changed it to the 4th paragraph because it flowed better with my structure. I hope readers will at least understand my belief and why I believe it and maybe think about my essay as they see AI art surround them. Thank you for reading.
