Talking , Being Vocal, and Communicating

Emanuel Caceres-Santos

Hey! I have something on my mind that I really want to share. It's about talking, being vocal, and standing up for yourself. Believe it or not, it is very important. As an example, once when I was playing a soccer match for my previous school and after the game I was on my way to my mothers car and I saw it. A boy who looked about 12 or 13 was being shoved and mistreated by boys taller and older than him. At the time I didn't know what to feel or what to do. I stayed quiet and nothing. But now I know what to do and what to feel or at least how to feel it. I believe being vocal talking and communicating isn't what it's a how.

Now as I have gotten older. I have even been in the spot of not being able to share how and what I feel. And every day I wonder what could have happened If I told someone or said something. If I had taken into consideration multiple factors and said “no, that's not right.” I can relate. I have been in a spot in which a close friend of mine and I were verbally fighting even though I did not want to. I wanted to stop and have peace between us. After some time I noticed a big shift in our friendship and our character. Not only was I upset it made me feel sad and oddly relieved. Why? I don't know.

I guess what I am trying to say is don’t let yourself get pushed around and stepped over by others. Don’t let yourself be the punching bag for others. You will only worsen the situation. To let yourself get pushed around is the same as “shooting your foot.” You give others the ability to do whatever they want to you. You will notice yourself begin to fade away. Going from energetic to sad, funny to serious, and joyful to grumpy. You will start to get mad over little things. And lastly people will see this and sadly they will leave you.

It is not just about being able to talk, it is also about you.Your health, how others see you and your environment. If you don't talk, people won't know your boundaries. If you don't know how others see you, you won't be able to see the problem or situation. For example others could see as the kid that always gets picked on and they join in making it worse. Lastly your environment could be full of people who bully you and are toxic. In your situation your life will be sad and kinda bad. It's rare if someone stands up for you or helps you. So you need to do it yourself.

Just think what could happen if you said “ no” or “stop.” With just a word or two your entire world could turn upside down. You could prosper. Not only this you could live with less problems. No one is picking on you and you just being able to be yourself without worrying about what others think. The thing that I would say if you haven't dealt with this is put yourself in their shoes. Even if you are the person doing it. And if you are the person in this situation just
think “what if?” or “how?” These two questions could change your life forever. Not only this, they are your key to move on and finally have the freedom you deserve. SO GO ASK!!

Writer's Statement

I wanted to write about this topic because it is one that is only briefly talked about and when talked about it is not deep. When people say “hey is everything okay?” Most of the time it is sympathetic but they won’t try to help. I did it to say and show what the problem was and the problems caused. I did not just choose it because of this but because I like the topic. I like it because it is one where there are countless things you can point out and talk about. Not only this it is a topic that multiple people can talk about and can relate to. It can have many twists and turns. Overall it is motivational and can help someone a lot. Lastly, sometimes it is something that someone might just need to hear. Kind of like the right place and time.
